HOW TO APPLY?
The procedure to apply for the Codice Fiscale varies depending if the individual is an Italian (EEA citizen) or a foreigner; the first ones have to apply to the Agenzia delle Entrate, while the others have to follow the Immigration Bureau procedure.
As an EEA citizen you can apply for the Codice Fiscale abroad and get the card sent to your abroad address; the only thing you have to do is to fill the form and either send it to the office or delegate someone to do it for yourself.
After 15-20 days, the Codice Fiscale will be shipped at your home address free of charge!

Hello, we have just bought a house in Tuscany – I am dual Irish/UK citizen, my wife solely UK citizen. We are self-employed and approaching pension age. We also have a flat in London.
Of course we have many questions, but firstly: can you obtain a Codice Fiscale but still not be a resident? We don’t yet know if we will stay more than 183 days a year, and I assume there are tax implications to becoming resident. And, as an Irish (EU) citizen, can I buy a car in Italy without becoming reisdent? Thank you!
Yes you can. The Codice Fiscale is like the National Insurance NUmber (NIN), and you don’t become resident once you apply for it
You can’t buy a car as a non resident
